Charger Women Perform at Home in Final Tune Up Before G-MACs

The Hillsdale College women's track team hosted its final home meet of the indoor season on Saturday. This Tune Up meet should help the Chargers prepare for next weekend's G-MAC Championship, held at Tiffin University.

The field events came first in the day's schedule. Senior Kathryn Bassette vaulted to second place with a season best mark of 3.45 meters. In high jump, sophomore Alexie Day also earned second, jumping 1.62 meters. 

The Chargers finished 1-2 in long jump, with freshman Emily Gerdin in first with leap of 5.31 meters and senior Dani Jones in second jumping for 4.96 meters. Jones also finished second in triple jump with a mark of 10.08 meters. 

In the throws, sophomores Nikita Maines and Michaela Burkhauser took first and second, respectively, in shot put. Maines threw for 12.81 meters and Burkhauser threw 12.77 meters. Freshman Katie Weldy took seventh in the event with a throw of 10.57 meters

The trio competed in weight throw as well. Maines threw for 17.09 for first, and Burkhauser came in third and Weldy finished fourth, throwing 15.91 and 14.67 respectively  

On the track junior Kajsa Johansson ran a speedy 60 meter dash, just missing the school record by .01 seconds. She won the race in 7.66 seconds. Junior Zoe Eby finished second in 8.18 seconds. 

In the 60m hurdles, freshman Jillian Roney had a huge PR by almost two tenths of a second. She won the race with a time of 9.08 seconds. Fellow freshman Judith Allison came in third in 9.51 seconds. 

Allison also competed in and won the 400m dash with a time of 59.96 seconds. 

In the 800m run, Hillsdale took first and second, with freshman Gywnne Riley leading the way with a time of 2:18.90. Junior Megan Poole had a nice PR as well, finishing in 2:22.25. 

Seniors Addison Rauch and Kate Vanderstelt raced the mile. Rauch won with a time of 5:22.82, and Vanderstelt finished fifth in 5:39.60. 

The 200m dash was stacked with Chargers. Junior Kajsa Johansson won with a time of 25.01. Roney had her second PR of the day, finishing in 26.11 seconds for second place. Sophomore Alanna O'Leary came in third in 25.26 seconds, and freshman Allison Nimtz finished in 27.39, a season best. 

Freshman Natalie Martinson rounded things out in the 3000m run with a time of 11:29.55 to take fourth.
