Chargers earn two provisional marks, set two meet records at Walsh Invitational

Although the Hillsdale College women's track and field team sent just a small contingent to the Walsh Tune-Up Invitational on Thursday, the Chargers still posted some major results in the final meet before next week's G-MAC Championships.

Two Chargers set meet records and won events for Hillsdale in the field. Sophomore Eden Little matched her season record and NCAA DII Provisional Mark of 43.13 meters to win the javelin, breaking the previous meet record by nearly eight full meters, with teammate Peyton Panka placing runner-up with a throw of 38.35 meters. Meanwhile, in the triple jump, junior Emly Gerdin won the triple jump with a season-best and meet record leap of 11.62 meters.

Additionally, sophomore Juliet Bernard had an impressive performance in the weight throw, finishing runner-up with a personal best throw of 52.59 meters, and setting a DII provo mark of her own. Bernard's throw currently ranks 30th in the nation at the NCAA DII level. Teammate Katie Weldy took fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 46.60 meters, and freshman Mackenzie Morrison placed runner-up in the discus with a throw of 42.55 meters as well.

In other action in the jumps, freshman pole vaulter Morgan Iverson took third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.43 meters, and freshman Erika Mogelvang took fifth in the high jump with a jump of 1.46 meters.

On the track, sophomore Isabella Gutierrez had a great day for the Chargers, taking runner-up in the 200m dash in a personal-best time of 25.87, and also setting a new personal best and taking sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.43. Teammate Grace Gottwalt placed seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.52, and freshman Nicole Marshall took third in the 800m run (2:19.14) to place as well for Hillsdale.

The Chargers now turn their focus to the G-MAC Outdoor Championships, in Owensboro, Kentucky from May 4-6 next week. The Chargers will be looking to take the G-MAC crown after finishing runner-up to Findlay last season, with several athletes in contention for conference championships.
