Townsend Wins First G-MAC Athlete of the Week Honor

Continuing the momentum of a strong indoor season into the outdoor season, sophomore hurdler Calli Townsend is starting to make her mark on the track & field scene in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Townsend was named the G-MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Tuesday. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office. She becomes the 29th different Hillsdale College athlete to win a conference athlete of the week honor, and her's is the 37th different time a Charger has won a weekly conference award this year.

In her outdoor season debut last weekend at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invite, Townsend shattered her previous PR in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:03.32, taking second in her section and seventh overall. That time was also fifth-best in G-MAC history.

Townsend was last year's 400 hurdle runner-up at the G-MAC championships and has carried a bigger role while improving her performances across the board in her sophomore season. She originally hails from Lexington, Michigan.
