Charger women's tennis team falls to Findlay in road match, 4-2

A 15-match conference winning streak was halted on Saturday as Hillsdale College's women's tennis team dropped its first match in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play since joining the league in 2017 in a 4-2 road loss to Findlay on Saturday.

Narrow Hillsdale losses in all three doubles matches helped the host Oilers gain the doubles point and a crucial early edge. The Chargers' No. 3 doubles team of Ellie Chawner and Helana Formentin came closest to victory in a 7-5 loss to Findlay, while the No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Cimpeanu and Sarah Hackman and the No. 2 doubles team of Sophia Spinazze and Canela Luna each took 6-4 losses.

In singles play, Luna took a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Oilers' Samantha Sweet at No. 3 singles and Spinazze won 6-3, 6-1 over Findlay's Emily Handler at No. 5 singles to give the Chargers two points, but Findlay got the three wins it needed at No. 2 singles, No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles to take the match.

Hillsdale is now 4-4 overall and 1-1 in G-MAC play. The Chargers now face a crucial match at home on Sunday against G-MAC leader Tiffin, who is 4-0 and can all but wrap up the regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming G-MAC tourney with a win over Hillsdale.
