Chargers split dual meets against Findlay, Lewis on Saturday

The Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team split a tough double-dual on Saturday in Findlay, Ohio, to move to 4-3 on the year.

Hillsdale dispatched Lewis 154-108 but fell to host and G-MAC rival Findlay 157-105, while posting several strong individual performances.

The Chargers won six events, with senior Marie Taylor and sophomore Megan Clifford each bringing home multiple first-place finishes. Taylor won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.80 for Hillsdale, as well as the 100 freestyle in 53.84, while Clifford took first in the 100 butterfly (58.08) and in the 500 freestyle (5:18.58) as well. Both Taylor and Clifford also teamed with freshman Julianna Weir and sophomore Lily Golladay to earn runner-up honors in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.34).

Sophomore Elise Mason also brought home a first-place finish for Hillsdale, winning the 1,000 freestyle relay in 10:57.07, while also placing fifth in the 400 individual medley (4:53.07). She was out-touched in the IM by teammate Joanna Burnham, who won the race in 4:41.87, and who also took third in the 100 breaststroke for the Chargers (1:08.99).

Senior Sarah Clark took third in the 1,000 freestyle as well for Hillsdale (11:21.09), Amy Mills took fourth in the 400 IM (4:52.72) and Hannah Douthitt took fourth in the 50 breaststroke (31.99) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.70) as well for Hillsdale. 

Senior Leah Tunney recorded two third place finishes for Hillsdale, taking third in both the 50 backstroke (28.33) and in the 100 backstroke (1:00.12). Junior Caroline Holmes placed three times for the Chargers, taking third in 50 butterfly (27.16), fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:58.80) and fifth in the 100 back (1:00.63) as well.

Sydney Slepian finished fifth in the 50 backstroke (28.83) for Hillsdale, and Emmalyse Dickhudt took fifth in the 50 breaststroke (32.14) as well.

Hillsdale competes for the final time before winter break next weekend, traveling to the three-day Davenport Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a chance to race against tough competition in a fast pool.
