Charger women roll past Ohio Valley, 109-62, for second straight win

Just three days after its most impressive offensive performance of the season, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team took it up another notch on Tuesday.

Playing a rare back-to-back against the same team on the road at Ohio Valley after facing the Fighting Scots at home on Saturday, the Chargers took advantage in a 109-62 win in Vienna, West Virginia, rolling to a 109-62 that saw them fall just short of setting multiple single-game program records.

Hillsdale's 109 points were just one shy of the program single game record of 110, set against Spring Arbor on Dec. 7, 2002, and the Chargers' 41 made field goals were also one shy of the record of 42 set against Albion College on Dec. 6, 1994.

The Chargers jumped on Ohio Valley early, scoring a new program record 33 first quarter points and tying the program record for second quarter points with 27 to take a 60-34 lead into halftime.

Five players scored in double figures for the Chargers in the win, led by junior Lauren Daffenberg, who was 6 of 9 from 3-point range off the bench to finish with 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Just one game after putting up just the second triple-double in a decade, senior guard Jaycie Burger fell just short of another one, putting up 18 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the Chargers in the contest, and sophomore Arianna Sysum chipped in 18 points and six rebounds as well.

In the best game of her career, sophomore Maverick Delp added 17 points and five rebounds off the bench for Hillsdale, while sophomore Sydney Mills put up an efficient 15 points and nine rebounds in just 16 minutes of playing time.

While freshman Dani Salenbien just missed giving the Chargers a sixth double-figure scorer, she filled up the stat sheet as well for the Chargers, contributing nine points, six rebounds, nine assists, three steals and two blocks.

The victory helps the Chargers improve to 4-16 overall and in G-MAC play, and gives the Chargers back-to-back wins for the first time since Dec. 16, 2019, when Hillsdale beat Findlay and Mercyhurst back-to-back.

Hillsdale closes out the regular season with a game against G-MAC leader Cedarville at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Chargers will honor the career of Burger, their lone senior this season, prior to the contest.
