Chargers stand out with two first-place finishes in CWA Ohio Steel Classic

The defending national champion Hillsdale College Action Shooting team showed it hasn't lost any ground on last season with a strong performance at the CWA Ohio Steel Classic on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

The Chargers had two title-winners and a runner-up performance in the event, which saw 194 competitors running through eight stages of competition in several different classifications, being evaluated on both time and accuracy.

In the Centerfire Pistol Classification, Hillsdale's Gregory Clement was the top finisher out of 43 competitors, finishing all eight courses in a combined 95.80 seconds, one of just three marks under 100 total seconds.

Along with Clement's title-winning performance, teammate Zechariah Steiger also won the Production Division title, and took 11th overall in the Centerfire Pistol Class, finishing with a total time of 133.59 for the eight courses. Teammates William Galsterer (151.97), Zachary Ailes (155.45) and Lionel Armstrong (170.49) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Production Division as well for the Chargers.

Meanwhile, one more Hillsdale athlete also brought home a top finish, as Joseph Grohs took second in the Single-Stack Division for the Chargers as well, with a time of 171.82.

It's part of a strong start to the season for the Hillsdale Action Shooting Program, which is looking to continue developing and building toward the SASP National Championships in March. Next up for the Chargers is the Howell Steel Challenge, held on Oct. 23 in Howell, Michigan.
