Extra Points

  • The 2015 Harlon Hill Trophy winner was Jason VanderLaan from Ferris State. His last GLIAC loss came in his sophomore season of 2013, to Hillsdale, 45-38. VanderLaan would go on to win 25 straight regular season games as starting quarterback after that loss to the Chargers.
  • The sophomores Hillsdale has leading the skill positions have enjoyed great seasons in 2016. QB Chance Stewart is second in the GLIAC averaging 288 passing yards per game. His favorite target, WR Trey Brock, easily leads the conference with 128.1 receiving yards per game, 23 more per game than any other player. RB Joe Reverman set season-highs last week with 31 carries for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win at Northern Michigan. He ranks fifth in the GLIAC, averaging just over 100 yards on the ground per game.
  • Brock has 1,025 receiving yards on the season, which rank him sixth in school history for a single season. However, he's piled up that yardage in just eight games. He needs a total of 150 receiving yards in the season's final two games to set a new school record for most average receiving yards in a season. His seven 100-yard games in one season already stands as a school record.
  • Ferris State comes into the game ranked 8th in the latest Super Region 4 rankings. The top 7 teams in each region qualify for the NCAA playoffs.
  • This will be the final regulasr season meeting between these teams for the foreseeable future. Ferris State is a mainstay in the GLIAC, while Hillsdale will be moving to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2017-18. The teams are not scheduled to face one another next season.
  • Keith Otterbein is the dean of GLIAC head football coaches. He's entering his 15th season coaching the Chargers (his alma mater), the longest tenure of any coach with his current program. Otterbein also coached at Ferris State from 1986-94, making 2016 his 24th season coaching in the GLIAC. Otterbein is a member of Ferris State's Athletic Hall of Fame.
