Glendening Named MVP

November 11, 2012 - Emotions were high and honors were bestowed at the Hillsdale College football team's annual postseason banquet Sunday afternoon inside Jesse Philips Arena.

The 14 graduating seniors each had a chance to speak and thank their friends and family for their support throughout their careers. Photos were taken, some fine food was served and coach Keith Otterbein presented team awards.

Senior RB Joe Glendening, the school-record holder for career carries, rushing yards and total touchdowns, was named the Roy Beck Most Valuable Player for the second season in a row. He also was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Back, and earned the team's Captains Award, along with teammates Brett Pasche, Cam White and Anthony Mifsud.

Glendening also earned the Howard "Champ" Messenger Award for overall excellence in the classroom and on the field.

White was also presented with the Coach's Award. His season was unfortunately ended prematurely due to an injury he suffered in the win over Saginaw Valley State Oct. 20.

The youngest award winner was redshirt-freshman H-back Alex Fogt, who was presented with the One Play Warrior Award.

Sophomore Joe Snyder had a breakout season at defensive end, and was named the Joe Vijuk Outstanding Defensive Lineman.

Senior D.J. Loy, a winner of the team's Most Outstanding Freshman Award in 2009, put a nice bookend on a terrific career by being named the team's Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

Junior Nick Galvan, who shared the 2009 freshman award with Loy, was named the team's Outstanding Defensive Back.

Junior Steven Embry earned the team's Ralph Miller III Award as its bets linebacker. Senior Anthony Mifsud was named the Leonard Urbanik Award winner, for scholarship, leadership and ability.

Hillsdale finished the 2012 season with a 7-4 overall record and shared the GLIAC North Division championship with Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State.
