Hillsdale's Wamsley wins Warrior Challenge; Chargers take third as a team

Coming off an All-American season in 2022, Hillsdale College's Liz Wamsley is picking up exactly where she left off last season.

The junior picked up her second race win in as many tries in 2023 at the Warrior Classic on Friday, hosted by Wayne State at the Willow Metropark in New Boston, Michigan, beating her next closest competition by over ten seconds to take victory in the women's 6K race in 21:56.10.

That time is less than a minute off her personal best run at the 2022 NCAA DII Championships that earned her All-American honors last season, and means she's well-placed to contend for even more honors this season.

As a team, the young Chargers put together a respectable third-place finish with 89 points, finishing behind the host Warriors and Cornerstone.

Freshman Savannah Fraley took 15th for Hillsdale in her first collegiate 6K, finishing in 23:42.10, while teammates and fellow freshmen Anna Stirton (27th, 24:46.70) and Eleanor Clark (30th, 24:55.80) also scored for Hillsdale. Veteran junior Vera Thompson was close behind Clark in 24:56.50 to place 31st and round out Hillsdale's scoring runners, while Brynn Edison took 33rd in 24:59.10 and Megan Roberts finished 36th in 25:03.60 as well for the Chargers.

Hillsdale is in action again next week, headed north to the Lansing Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22, before taking time off to prepare for a busy season of championship racing in October.
