Women's Preview

The Chargers used a seventh-place finish in one of NCAA Division II's toughest regionals to make an eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA DII National Meet. Hillsdale will be looking for a solid finish at nationals, building off strong results in the G-MAC Championships on Oct. 23 and the Midwest Regional Championship on Nov. 6.  The Chargers are led by freshman Liz Wamsley, who took seventh individually at the regional meet in a personal best time of 21:09 for the 6K distance. If Wamsley can match or improve upon that time in the national meet race, she will have a shot at becoming the first Hillsdale women's cross country runner to earn All-American honors since Arena Lewis in 2018.

Hillsdale also could surprise in the team race, with a strong core behind Wamsley that includes sophomores Meg Scheske and Gwynne Riley, who both earned All-Conference honors for the Chargers on Oct. 23. A strong pack that includes two freshmen, Vera Thompson and Abby Scherer, as well as junior Claire McNally, could play to Hillsdale's advantage in a tightly packed national meet race that places an emphasis on sticking together as a team and ensuring your fifth runner gets across the line in the best time possible.

The Chargers' best-ever national meet finish is second, in 2014, and Hillsdale also recorded a third-place finish in 2015. Hillsdale placed 11th in their most recent national meet trip in 2019, and return Riley, Scheske and McNally from that squad two years ago.
