Chargers fall to second-ranked Nova Southeastern, 7-0, in first match in Florida

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team took on a top 10 team in NCAA Division II for the second straight match, falling to second-ranked Nova Southeastern 7-0 on Monday to start their annual Florida spring break trip.

Hillsdale put up a solid fight against an elite opponent in doubles, with its No. 1 doubles team of Melanie Zampardo and Megan Hackman and its No. 3 doubles team of Helana Formentin and Libby McGivern each falling in tight 6-4 matches.

In singles play, Chargers freshman Ane Dannhauser tested the ninth-ranked singles player in Division II, Lexie Weir, in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat at No. 1 singles, while Zampardo battled 44th-ranked Freya Davies of Nova Southeastern in a 6-2, 6-2 defeat. Sophomore Isabella Spinazze also put up a good fight at No. 6 singles, falling to the Sharks' Kayla Solagnier 6-3, 6-4.

Hillsdale is now 3-7 overall on the season and plays NAIA program Florida National today, with a match against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday to complete the Chargers' Florida swing.
