Chargers take host Ferris State to the wire in narrow 4-3 loss

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team pushed host Ferris State to the final points of Sunday's match, but came up just short of a regional win in a narrow 4-3 loss.

The Chargers continued to show their strength in doubles early on, capturing the doubles point on the strength of victories by the pairing of freshman Ane Dannhauser and junior Courtney Rittel in a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, and by senior Helana Formentin and junior Libby McGivern 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Dannhauser completed an undefeated day with an impressive win at No. 1 singles, going the distance and winning a third-set tiebreak to edge out Ferris State's Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer in a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 victory.

Senior Julian Wagner also picked up a three-set singles win for the Chargers, rallying from a 6-2 first set loss at No. 4 singles to Ferris State's Aimee Reynoso with impressive 7-5 and 6-3 victories in the final two sets to take the match.

Despite tough fights at the other four positions, however, Hillsdale couldn't find the clinching point it needed to pull out the victory, as Ferris State took all four matches to narrowly grab the win.

Hillsdale is now 2-5 overall and hits the road next week for matches at regional foes Wayne State on Friday and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, looking to build momentum beofre the team's annual spring break trip to Florida the following week.
