Chargers roll to home victory over Lake Superior State, 4-1

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season and first at home in emphatic fashion on Saturday, downing visiting Lake Superior State 4-1.

The Chargers came firing out of the gate to take the doubles point. Hillsdale's No. 1 pairing of Melanie Zampardo and Megan Hackman continued to show why they remain regionally ranked, as they took a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles to remain undefeated in the spring, and the Chargers' No. 3 doubles team of Libby McGivern and Helana Formentin rolled to a 6-1 victory over LSSU to clinch the doubles point.

In singles play, freshman Ane Dannhauser rolled past LSSU's Tayla Brasier 6-1, 6-4, in a dominant victory at No. 1 singles for the Chargers, while Zampardo also made quick work of her Lakers opponent, LSSU's Trinity Ly, in similar fashion in a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. Needing just one point to close the match, McGivern came out on top of a roller-coaster showdown with LSSU's Valentina Parodi at No. 3 singles, showing her strength in the third set of a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory to clinch the match.

Hillsdale improves to 2-4 overall and will be in action again tomorrow, Sunday, as the Chargers travel to take on always-tough Ferris State in a regional road match in the afternoon.
