Mason finishes 17th in 1,650 freestyle to wrap up 2024 NCAA DII Championships

Junior Elise Mason had a strong race in her final swim of the 2024 NCAA DII Championships for the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team, moving up five spots from her seed to finish 17th in the 1,650 freestyle.

A 2023 honorable mention All-American in the event, Mason finished just shy of the top 16 to repeat the honor in 2024, but still posted a season-best time of 17:06.51 in the event. The junior had consistent laps between 30.21 and 31.73 seconds throughout the race.

All told, across four events, Hillsdale's Elise Mason and Megan Clifford swum season bests and improved on their seed entering the championships in every event they competed in for the Chargers. Clifford repeated as All-American in the 200 butterfly as well on Friday night, joining Rachael Kurtz as one of oniy two Charger women's swimmers to earn All-American honors in consecutive seasons.

Both Clifford and Mason will return for their senior seasons in 2024-25, looking to return to the NCAA DII Championships one final time.
