Chargers' Leah Tunney earns second G-MAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week award (Oct. 25-Nov. 1)

For the fourth time in a row this season, the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team got in the pool and bested the opponent this past weekend.

And for the fourth week in a row, the Chargers also had a swimmer earn Athlete of the Week recognition in their sport from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Junior Leah Tunney won the award for the second time this season after a standout performance in Hillsdale's 134-107 victory over Albion on Saturday at home, the G-MAC office announced on Wednesday.

Tunney won all three events she competed in on Saturday and was the only swimmer to finish under two minutes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:58.28) and the only one to finish under a minute in the 100 backstroke as well (59.48). The Mequon, Wisconsin native also swam a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay for the Chargers.

The junior has already made a name for herself during her time at Hillsdale, winning G-MAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2019-20 and G-MAC co-Swimmer of the Year honors in 2020-21, as well as first-team All-G-MAC honors in three different individual events this past season.

Tunney and Hillsdale travel to Notre Dame College for a multi-team meet this Saturday at 1 p.m. for their next action.
