Chargers' Cecilia Guadalupi named G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week (Jan. 10-17)

Chargers' Cecilia Guadalupi named G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week (Jan. 10-17)

With less than a month remaining before the G-MAC/MEC Championships, the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team continues to display its strength.

Sophomore Cecilia Guadalupi became the latest Charger to earn conference recognition, as the G-MAC office announced on Thursday morning that the Augusta, Maine native had earned G-MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors. It's the second time in Guadalupi's career that she's been recognized with a weekly award, and the eighth time this season a Charger women's swimmer has earned the honor.

Those eight honors have been won by six different Charger swimmers, a true sign of the team's depth and talent, and Guadalupi is certainly a deserving pick after winning three events at Saturday's home tri meet to help a short-handed Hillsdale team edge visiting Saginaw Valley State by one point and also defeat G-MAC rival Ashland to remain undefeated in duals on the season.

Guadalupi took first in one of her signature events, the 200 yd breaststroke, winning a close race over teammate Emmalyse Dickhudt in a time of 2:30.01, and also ran away with a victory in the 100 freestyle, winning in 54.52.

The sophomore combined with Dickhudt, Anika Fassett and Marie Taylor to win the 200 medley relay as well, in 1:51.34, in a meet where every point proved to be critical for the Chargers.

The 2020-21 G-MAC Freshman of the Year, Guadalupi seems to be rounding into form at the perfect time for the Chargers, who have just two meets remaining before the conference championships in Canton, Ohio in February. The Chargers travel to Grand Rapids tomorrow to take on Calvin and Davenport in another tri-meet at 5 p.m. for their next action in the pool.
