Chargers wrap up regular season against elite competition at Butler Invite

Sunday afternoon, the Hillsdale College women's swimming and diving team traveled to Fishers, Indiana, for the 13th Annual Butler Invitational. Hillsdale finished fourth out of five teams with 487 points. This is the last meet before the GMAC/MEC Conference Championships starting February 16 in Canton, Ohio.

In the 1650, junior Sarah Clark finished fifth (18:34.95), and senior Anna Clark finished ninth (19:06.15).

There was a close finish in the 200 freestyle between sophomore Caroline Holmes in fifth (1:57.07), and junior Leah Tunney sixth by .35 seconds (1:57.44). Sophomore Sarah Pataniczek finished twelfth (2:00.23), freshman Elise Mason close behind in fourteenth 2:00.85, and S. Clark finished seventeenth, right after swimming the 1650 in the previous event (2:05.57), and senior Stefanie Walker finished eighteenth (2:06.08).

In the 100 backstroke, the chargers finished within a second of each other. Senior Carissa Henderson finished thirteenth (1:02.00), and freshman Lily Golladay finished fourteenth (1:02.92).

There was only a .01 difference in the 100 breaststroke between freshman Emma Dickhudt, who finished eleventh, (1:10.66), and junior Hannah Douthitt, who finished twelfth (1:10.67). Freshman Joanna Burnham finished seventeenth (1:13.93).

Freshman Megan Clifford finished in a strong second place in the 200 butterfly (2:07.78). A. Clark finished eighth (2:19.66), junior Anika Fassett finished in a close ninth (2:20.95), and sophomore Phoebe Johnston finished tenth (2:25.68).

In the 50 freestyle, junior Marie Taylor finished seventh (24.70), Henderson was thirteenth (25.80), senior Becca Briskey finished seventeenth (26.26), and senior Taylor Boyle placed twenty-second (26.79).

In the 100 freestyle, three chargers finished within .7 seconds of each other. Golladay finished ninth (55.12), Clifford finished tenth (55.33), and Taylor was twelfth (55.78). Four chargers also finished within .8 in the 100 freestyle. Junior Sydney Slepian finished eighteenth (58.03), Dickhudt was nineteenth (58.68), Boyle was twentieth (58.77), and Briskey was twenty-first (58.87)

The 200 backstroke is a top event for the Chargers with seven swimmers placing. Holmes finished fourth (2:10.47), Tunney was recorded at finishing tenth (2:14.00 but due to timing issues, she was closer to a 2:11), Mills finished thirteenth (2:18.08), Henderson finished fourteenth (2:18.31), Douthitt finished sixteenth (2:19.03), Mason is recorded at seventeenth (2:20.61 but due to timing issues was closer to 2:15), and Slepian finished nineteenth (2:24.75)

In the 500 freestyle, Pataniczek finished third (5:22.72), Mills was seventh (5:41.48), and Fassett was recorded at eighth (5:44.72 but due to timing issues was closer to 5:40).

In the 100 butterfly, Pataniczek finished twelfth (1:01.28) just after competed in the 500, A. Clark finished fourteenth (1:01.96) and Walker was sixteenth (1:03.00)

In the 200 IM, Burnham finished fifteenth (2:17.10), Douthitt was eighteenth (2:21.87), Mills was twentieth (2:22.30), and Johnston was twenty-second (2:22.40).

The 200 medley A-relay of Guadalupi, Dickhudt, Clifford, Taylor finished eighth (1:51.53), the B-relay of Holmes, Burnham, Fassett, and Tunney finished tenth (1:52.40), C-relay of Slepian, Boyle, Walker, and Golladay eleventh (1:53.58), and D-relay of Mills, Douthitt, Johnston, and Briskey finished thirteenth (2:02.70).

The 400 freestyle A-relay of Holmes, Clifford, Tunney, Taylor finished fourth (3:40.95), the B-relay of Henderson, Mason, Golladay, and Slepian finished seventh (3:43.68), and the C-relay of Pataniczek, A. Clark, S. Clark, and Briskey finished eleventh (3:54.80).
