Chargers edge SVSU, beat Ashland in final home meet of the season

The Hillsdale College women's swim team celebrated its senior day on Saturday afternoon with a double victory over Saginaw Valley State University and Ashland University. The team honored its six graduating seniors, Taylor Boyle, Madeline Breay, Rebecca Briskey, Anna Clark, Carissa Henderson, and Stefanie Walker, and also pulled off a dramatic victory by one point over the Cardinals, 114-113 along with an 151-74 win over the Eagles.

The Chargers finished 1-2 in a close race during the 200 breaststroke. Sophomore Cecilia Guadalupi finished first (2:30.01) by less than a half second ahead of freshman teammate Emma Dickhudt (2:30.50). Senior Taylor Boyle finished sixth (2:39.34).

In the 400 IM, Hillsdale had another big 1-2 finish with freshman Joanna Burnham taking first (4:44.70) and sophomore Amy Mills second (4:49.42).

Guadalupi had another victory in the 100 freestyle (54.52), senior Carissa Henderson finished fifth (58.35), and Burnham was sixth (58.38).

The Chargers won many crucial points in the 200 backstroke. Junior Leah Tunney led the way by three seconds (2:11.59), sophomore Amy Mills was third (2:16.67), freshman Lily Golladay was fifth (2:19.68), and junior Hannah Douthitt was sixth (2:21.26).

In the 200 butterfly, freshman Megan Clifford swept the pool by eight seconds for first place (2:10.25), and junior Anika Fassett finished third (2:21.05).

Junior Marie Taylor won the 50 freestyle by almost two seconds (24.50) and was part of both winning relays. Senior Carissa Henderson finished fifth (26.48).

In the 200 freestyle, junior Leah Tunney was just out-touched by .13 for second place (1:56.22), and freshman Megan Clifford finished third (2:00.09).

In the distance events, Sarah Clark finished second in the 1000 by two seconds (11:03.38), and sophomore Amy Mills was fourth (11:16.78). In the 500, S. Clark finished third (5:29.02), and senior Stefanie Walker was fifth (5:38.13).

Both A-relays had strong first place finishes. The 200 medley A-relay of Guadalupi, Dickhudt, Fassett, Taylor finished first (1:51.34) and 200 freestyle A-relay Tunney, Clifford, Golladay, Taylor finished first (1:39.74).
