Chargers top Albion 134-107 to stay unbeaten

The Hillsdale College women's swim team continues to be undefeated after a home win over Albion College on Saturday, 134-107, despite spotting the Britons 32 points in diving.

Junior Leah Tunney won all three of her events. Tunney led the way for two 1-2-3 finishes for the chargers in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. In the 200 freestyle, Tunney was the only swimmer under two minutes (1:58.28), followed by sophomore teammate Sarah Pataniczek in second (2:03.12), and junior Sarah Clark in third (2:03.21). In the 100 backstroke, Tunney led the way and was the only swimmer under one minute (59.49). Freshman Elise mason finished second (1:02.80) and junior Sydney Slepian was third (1:03.34).

Charger freshmen swept the 1,000 meter freestyle. Freshman Elise Mason won the event by 27 seconds and was the only swimmer under 11 minutes (10:54.27). Freshman teammate Megan Clifford came in second (11:21.75) and was 26 seconds ahead of third place.

The distance swimmers continued to score critical points for the chargers in the 500. Junior Sarah Clark finished first (5:24.48), sophomore Sarah Pataniczek second (5:26.33), and senior Anna Clark fourth (5:38.86).

Freshman Joanna Burnham had a very strong performance in the 400 IM taking first after a comeback in the second half of the race (4:43.64). Sophomore Amy Mills finished third (4:54.58), just out touching Albion by half of a second.

In the 100 freestyle, sophomore Cecilia Guadalupi just out touched teammate Caroline Holmes for first (55.08), and Holmes finished .2 after for second (55.28). Freshman Lily Golladay finished fourth (57.11). Chargers continued to do well in the sprint events with Guadalupi finishing second in the 50 freestyle (25.45), Golladay third (25.64), and freshman Emmalyse Dickhudt fourth (26.78).

In the 100 butterfly, Clifford had a strong second place finish (59.26), A. Clark finished third (1:02.45), and senior Stefanie Walker finished fourth (1:02.80).

In the 100 breaststroke, Burnham finished second (1:09.79), Dickhudt was a close third (1:10.57), and senior Taylor Boyle was fourth (1:13.64).

The 400 freestyle A-relay of Guadalpui, Holmes, Tunney, and Clifford finished first (3:41.19), and the 400 medley A-relay of Holmes, Burnham, A. Clark, and Golladay finished second (4:04.68).

Hillsdale hits the road this coming weekend, traveling to nearby Olivet College for a quad featuring the Comets, Ursuline and Notre Dame (OH).
