Chargers take runner-up honors in solid performance at Warrior Challenge

The Hillsdale men's cross country team continued a solid start to the 2023 season with a solid all-around performance at Friday's Warrior Challenge at the Willow Metropark in New Boston, Michigan.

The Chargers took second to host Wayne State with 51 points, finishing ahead of third place Davenport by a solid margin of 18.

Junior Alex Mitchell continued a strong start to the 2023 season by taking fourth in the 8K race in a time of 25:23.80, less than 15 seconds off his all-time personal best at the 8K distance. Also placing in the top 10 for Hillsdale were junior Richie Johnston, who took eighth with a big early-season personal best of 25:54.70, and junior Donnie McArdle, who took 10th in 26:00.30 in one of the best 8K races of his collegiate career.

Ross Kuhn finished 14th as well for Hillsdale, in 26:12.80, as the junior was just a few seconds off his PR as well in the race, and freshman Caleb Youngstedt placed 20th in an impressive first-ever collegiate 8K, finishing in 26:25.80, to round out the Chargers' scoring runners.

Also placing for the Chargers were senior Sean Hoeft, who took 31st in 26:48.10, and junior Micah VanderKooi, who placed 38th in 27:07.50.

Hillsdale is in action again next week, headed north to the Lansing Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22, before taking time off to prepare for a busy season of championship racing in October.
