Chargers' Cass Dobrowolski ties for 13th in the high jump at NCAA DII Outdoor Championships

Day 1 Recap

Freshman Cass Dobrowolski capped off a stellar first season with the Hillsdale College men's track and field team with an admirable performance at his first NCAA DII Outdoor Championships on Friday in Allendale, Michigan.

Dobrowolski, the G-MAC Outdoor Champion in the high jump, tied for 13th overall in the nation in that event, clearing the first two heights of the competition.  The freshman from Port Huron, Michigan made it over the starting height of 2.02 meters, and cleared 2.07 meters as well on a dramatic third attempt, but couldn't advance further in the competition after three close misses at 2.10 meters.

The national meet appearance caps an impressive season for Dobrowolski, who established himself as one of the top high jumpers in Hillsdale men's history after clearing 2.12 meters to win the G-MAC title in early March. With three seasons of eligibility remaining, he could threaten both the indoor high jump school record of 2.16 meters held by Dan Gifford and Jim McHugh, and the outdoor record of 2.19 meters held by Gifford, as long as he stays healthy and continues to improve.

Hillsdale's men's track and field team has one athlete left at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships, as sophomore Sean Fagan competes on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. in the 400 meter hurdles final, looking to bring home All-American honors.
