Chargers' Kyle MacBeth gets first provo mark at GVSU Last Chance meet

The second week of May is a frenzied one for NCAA DII track and field athletes, as they make their final push to qualify for the Outdoor National Meet at the end of the month at a variety of Last Chance meets.

Kicking off the week for the Hillsdale College men's track and field team, freshman thrower Kyle MacBeth put his best foot forward with a big personal record at the GVSU Last Chance meet on Tuesday in Allendale, Michigan.

Throwing at the site of the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships at the end of May, MacBeth recorded the first NCAA DII provo mark of his career on Tuesday, throwing a career-best mark of 59.68 meters on his final throw of the competition. MacBeth's throw is the 35th best at the NCAA DII level this season, and moves him closer both to contending for a NCAA DII Outdoor Nationals bid as well as to breaking Hillsdale's school record mark in the javelin of 61.32 meters set by Pete Dzwilewski in 1987.

The Chargers have three more meets this week -- at Oakland University on Thursday, Baldwin-Wallace on Friday and Lee University on Saturday -- to try and put down marks, with track athletes and field event athletes in the jumps getting involved later in the week.
