Meet record, multiple personal bests for Chargers at Walsh Invitational

The Hillsdale College men's track and field team only sent a handul of athletes to the Walsh Tune-Up Invitational on Thursday in North Canton, Ohio, but that small group produced some big results.

Leading the way for Hillsdale was freshman javelin thrower Kyle MacBeth, who set a new personal record of 57.04 meters to win the javelin event. MacBeth's mark was nearly nine feet further than the previous meet record. Joining him in placing in the event was his teammate, senior Jonathan Burton, who also PRed with a throw of 43.01 to take sixth.

On the track, sophomore Joseph Ritzer ran well in multiple events to lead the Chargers. Ritzer took third in the 400 meter dash in a personal best time of 51.00, and also placed 10th in the 200m dash in a time of 23.12 that was just a few-hundredths of a second off of a personal best as well.

Hillsdale freshman Alfonso Garcia also placed for the Chargers, taking fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.31 meters.

The Walsh Invite was Hillsdale's last meet before the G-MAC Outdoor Championships, taking place next week from May 4-6 in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Chargers will be looking to build off of a solid third-place finish in 2021 and contend for individual championships in several events.
