Two event wins lead Charger squad at home Winter Classic on Saturday

The Hillsdale College men's track and field team recorded two event victories at the weekend's home Winter Classic meet, despite racing with a partial squad.

Sandwiched between Hillsdale's opener with Ashland and Findlay and the program's annual Wide Track Classic, this weekend's meet was a lower key affair, with Hillsdale only racing a select group of athletes. However, there were still several notable performances for the Chargers.

Sophomore Joshua Nichols led the way for the Chargers by winning the triple jump for the second consecutive meet, with a distance of 13.38 meters, and also placing seventh in the 60m dash with a personal best time of 7.52.

Competing in their first ever heptathlon on Friday, Hillsdale also got a 1-2 finish from freshman Cass Dobrowolski and sophomore Charlie Andrews in the multi-event, which includes seven different events. Dobrowolski posted a score of 4,012 in the heptathlon, and Andrews scored 3,348.

Sean Fagan took runner-up honors in the 60 meter hurdles as well for Hillsdale, finishing in 8.57, and Hillsdale's throws crew also had a solid day, with freshman Jesse Westmeyer taking third in the weight throw with a distance of 15.24 meters, and freshman Ben Haas placing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.77 meters.

Freshman Justin Doughty also placed fourth in the 400 meter dash for Hillsdale, finishing in 54.13.

The Chargers will host the Hillsdale Wide Track Invitational on Friday and the Wide Track Classic on Saturday of next week for their next action, splitting what was a two-day meet into two events against two separate fields.
