Chargers' Tyler Conrad named G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week (April 1-8)

Chargers' Tyler Conrad named G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week (April 1-8)

A record-setting performance and a big team win on the court helped Tyler Conrad earn weekly conference honors for the second time in the 2023-24 season on Monday.

The senior was recognized as the G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in a 6-1 victory over Northwood on Saturday. It's the seventh time in a distinguished five year career that Conrad has been recognized by the G-MAC with a weekly award.

With a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles along with partner Ellis Klanduch, Conrad earned his 122nd career victory on Saturday against the Timberwolves, surpassing Charlie Adams (2016-20) and his 121 wins for the Chargers program record for all-time match victories. He added another win to his total with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory over Northwood's Alessanro Parigi at No. 2 singles to help the Chargers win a showdown of G-MAC unbeatens, dispatching the Timberwolves while allowing Hillsdale to move to 5-0 in conference play and remain in the hunt for the G-MAC title.

That the record-setting victory came in his hometown of Midland, Michigan was an added bonus for Conrad, who's been a stalwart in the lineup for the Chargers for five seasons. The senior has earned three first-team All-G-MAC honors with a shot at a fourth this spring, while helping lead Hillsdale to the 2021 G-MAC Championship in men's tennis. A leader for the Chargers throughout his time with the team and one of Hillsdale's most consistent players, he's a player truly deserving of this award. Conrad came to Hillsdale as a dominant player from Michigan prep tennis powerhouse Midland Dow, winning the 2016 MHSAA State Championship at No. 3 singles in 2016 and placing third or better in his flight at the MHSAA D2 state final all four years of high school. He's carried that strong play into college, as one of Hillsdale's top players in every season he's taken the court for the Chargers.

Conrad and Hillsdale will look to stay unbeaten with two tough matches this weekend at home against fellow G-MAC unbeaten Findlay on Friday and defending G-MAC champion Tiffin on Saturday for their next contests.
