Veteran leaders help Chargers take down Quincy, 4-3, at PTR Spring Tennis Fest

Hillsdale's three four-year senior starters came through in a big way for the Chargers on Tuesday afternoon, each racking up critical singles victories as Hillsdale held on for a tight 4-3 win over Quincy at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest on Hilton Head Island.

Tyler Conrad, Sean Barstow and Daniel Gilbert each recorded a big singles victory to help the Chargers clinch the match, while Conrad and Gilbert also teamed up with their doubles partners to take a critical doubles point as well.

Conrad got an impressive win at No. 2 singles for the Chargers, taking down Quincy's Zach Willing 6-0, 7-5, while Barstow also beat his Hawks opponent, Ettore Pavesi, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles as well. Gilbert finished off the match with the fourth and clinching point, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Pablo Mateos Niella at No. 6 singles to secure the victory.

Hillsdale opened the match by claiming the doubles point, with Conrad and his partner, freshman Ellis Klanduch, winning 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, and Gilbert teaming with freshman Henry Hammond for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles as well.

All three seniors have been lineup mainstays since arriving at Hillsdale and two, Conrad and Barstow, each have over 100 match victories with the Chargers. The trio's veteran savvy paid big dividends on Tuesday.

Hillsdale improves to 5-5 overall and finishes off the PTR Spring Tennis Fest on Wednesday with a match against NCAA Division I University of St. Louis at 6 p.m.
