Chargers fall to Edinboro, 4-1, to start Pennsylvania trip

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team fought hard but came out on the wrong end of close tiebreaks in a 4-1 loss to host Edinboro as the Chargers finished the first leg of their Pennsylvania trip on Saturday.

Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles pairing of sophomore Aidan Pack and senior Sean Barstow picked up a win over their Edinboro counterparts, 6-4, in the doubles portion of competition, but the Scots claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, then captured the first three singles flights to take the match.

In all three singles matches, Hillsdale forced a tiebreak in either the first or second set, but came up short in the deciding points by narrow margins. Pack came extremely close to forcing a third and deciding set, falling 8-6 to Edinboro's Bruno Sabio at No. 1 singles, and freshman Ellis Klanduch also dropped a hard-fought 8-6 tiebreaker in the the first set against the Scots' Thibault Dorval as well at No. 3 singles.

Barstow picked up the lone point for the Chargers with a straight set win at No. 4 singles over Edinboro's Thomas Buchard, winning a 7-2 tiebreak to take the first set and winning 6-2 in the second set to take the match.

Hillsdale (2-2) finishes off its swing through Pennsylvania on Sunday with a match against Mercyhurst, beginning at 1:45 p.m.
