The Hillsdale College men's and women's tennis teams have a history of success, on the court and in the classroom.

The 2021-22 squads were no different, and both teams brought home a slew of honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday as a result.

The ITA recognized both Charger squads with team All-Academic honors, while 14 individual athletes, seven each from the men's and women's teams, earned ITA Scholar Athlete distinctions as well.

It's the fifth straight season the Charger men have earned the team honor, and the sixth consecutive year for the women.

In order to earn All-Academic Team honors, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above among all varsity letter-winners for the current academic year, a threshold the Chargers easily exceeded in the 2021-22 school year.

Among individuals, the 14 total ITA Scholar Athlete honorees surpasses the total of 13 from each of the two previous seasons, and represents a new high-water mark for the two programs.

In order to receive ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors, an athlete must be an active member of their team and maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher for the 2021-22 school year. Eighty-seven and a half percent of the Charger men's tennis team's roster earned scholar-athlete honors, and 70 percent of the Charger women's tennis team's roster was represented, an impressively high percentage for both squads.

On the men's side, graduated senior Matt Granzotto led the way in earning Scholar Athlete recognition, as did Brennan Cimpeanu, Sean Barstow, Sam Clyde, Daniel Gilbert, Tyler Conrad and Bogdan Janicijevic. It's the third straight season that Conrad and Janicijevic have been recognized, and the second-straight season for Cimpeanu and Barstow.

For the women, graduated senior Sophia Spinazze was recognized as an ITA Scholar Athlete for the third straight year to lead the Chargers, and was joined by teammates Courtney Rittel, Ellie Chawner, Helana Formentin, Canela Luna, Melanie Zampardo and Tatum Matthews.

It's Chawner's third time receiving the distinction as well for Hillsdale, while Formentin and Luna each earned their second honor.
