Three Chargers earn first-team All-G-MAC honors, tied for most by any G-MAC team

2021-22 G-MAC Men's Tennis All-Conference Team

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team has had an impressive run of historic individual accomplishments this season.

Those achievements are reflected in the All-G-MAC Men's Tennis team, announced on Friday morning.

The Chargers had three of the eight first-team honorees, reflective of Hillsdale's strength at the top of the lineup.

For the second-straight season, sophomore Brennan Cimpeanu made the All-G-MAC first team. It's been a banner year for Cimpeanu, who's spent nearly all of the 2021-22 season ranked in the top 20 in the nation after becoming the first player in Hillsdale College history to win the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in singles, partnering with Barstow to finish runner-up in the ITA Midwest Region in the fall, and placing 7th in the nation in singles and 13th in doubles at the ITA Cup in October.

Cimpeanu has a 18-5 singles record this season, with three of those losses coming to nationally-ranked players, as well as a 14-10 mark in doubles. That makes him 35-8 overall for his career in singles, and 30-15 in doubles in two years with the Chargers. He was also named the G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week four times this season.

He's joined as a repeat first-team All-G-MAC honoree by Conrad, who's been a rock in the lineup at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles all year for the Chargers. The veteran junior has an 8-12 singles record this season, but a 4-2 mark in conference play, and a 13-11 record in doubles playing nearly all of his matches in the No. 1 slot for Hillsdale.

Conrad is now 61-43 in three years at Hillsdale, continuing to perform despite stepping up in competition with each passing year, and was twice named G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week this season.

Joining Cimpeanu and Conrad on the All-G-MAC first team and earning the first 1st team honor of his career is sophomore Sean Barstow. A second-team honoree last season for the Chargers, Barstow took a big step forward in the 2021-22 campaign, teaming with Cimpeanu to finish runner-up at the ITA Midwest Regional in September and reach the ITA Cup in doubles, placing 13th in the nation in an unprecedented achievement for Hillsdale College men's tennis.

Barstow posted an 11-10 singles record for Hillsdale, but went 5-1 in G-MAC matches for the Chargers, and 7-2 in his natural rotation spot of No. 3 singles. He also posted a 16-12 record in doubles this season, split between Cimpeanu and Conrad as partners. The sophomore is now 55-37 in singles and doubles combined for his career at Hillsdale after two seasons.

Hillsdale kicks off its G-MAC Tournament run as the four seed looking to pull upsets and repeat as G-MAC Champions this weekend in Owensboro, Kentucky, beginning with a semifinal match against top-seeded Findlay at 9:30 a.m. ET on Friday morning.
