Seven Chargers men's and women's basketball players earn 2024 CSC Academic All-District honors

2023-24 CSC Academic All-District Teams

Both Hillsdale College men's and women's basketball teams had a successful campaign in 2023-24 on the court, ending the year with winning seasons and with top four finishes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings.

As well as on the court, the Chargers also had a strong school year in the classroom, showcasing their achievements with a slew of Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon.

Both Hillsdale's men and Hillsdale's women were represented by the maximum four honorees. For all eight of them, the award is a sign of impressive achievements in every aspect of collegiate life.

In order to be considered for CSC Academic All-District honors, an athlete must be either a starter or a meaningful contributor, and carry a 3.5 or better cumulative GPA. Academic All-District honorees are entered into consideration to receive prestigious Academic All-American honors from CSC later in mid-March, as voted on and selected by institution SIDs at the NCAA DII level.

On the men's side, Hillsdale's top three leading scorers, Joe Reuter, Charles Woodhams and Ashton Janowski, all earned Academic All-District honors, as did reserve forward Garrett Bolte.

The honor is the latest on the season for Reuter, who also earned first-team All-G-MAC honors when conference awards were announced earlier this month. It's also the second year in a row that Woodhams, a starting guard who averaged 13 points per game this past season, has earned Academic All-District recognition. Janowski, a sophomore, and Bolte, a redshirt freshman, are both earning the award for the first time.

On the women's side, three players -- fifth-year senior Sydney Mills, junior Caitlin Splain and redshirt freshman Sydney Pnacek -- all earned recognition. Both Mills and Splain are returning honorees from the 2022-23 season, and it's another honor in a long list of them for Mills, a four-time All-G-MAC player who graduates this spring as Hillsdale's all-time leading rebounder and in the top 10 all-time at Hillsdale in points, rebounds, field goals made, 3-pointers made and blocked shots.

Splain, as well, has played a key role for the Chargers in multiple seasons as a sharp-shooting guard. Her 182 3-pointers through three seasons are tied for seventh all-time and she has a chance to challenge the program record for 3-pointers made as a senior next year. Pnacek is a first-time honoree after breaking into the lineup and making meaningful contributions for the Chargers in 2023-24.

As All-District honorees, all seven players are under consideration for CSC Academic All-American honors. 15 All-Americans will be chosen from the All-District winners and the selections will be announced on April 17 for the men and April 16 for the women.
