2022 Hillsdale College Football Schedule

As spring practices heat up for the Hillsdale College football team, all eyes turn to the 2022 season in the fall and Team 130 as the Chargers prepare to chase big goals in conference and regional play.

Hillsdale has an 11-game schedule this fall, including six home dates highlighted by four critical Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchups.

The schedule kicks off with an important game right off the bat, as for the first time since 2015 the Chargers open the season with a conference opponent in a game with league title implications. Hillsdale travels to Lake Erie on Saturday, Sept. 3 for a 1 p.m. kickoff, taking on an opponent that the Chargers are 8-1 all-time against. But that one loss is consequential – it came last year in a 33-14 defeat that cost the Chargers a share of the G-MAC title. Revenge will certainly be on Hillsdale's minds entering that week.

After opening on the road, Hillsdale will take the field at Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium for back-to-back home contests, starting with a 7 p.m. contest against league for Walsh to open the home slate. That contest also doubles as both Business and Industry Day for the Chargers, celebrating local Hillsdale County businesses, and the team's Victory Day celebration as well as the Chargers partner with the Victory Day organization to provide a fun game day experience for special needs children in the community.

The following Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m., Hillsdale hosts Truman State in the first of two games in the annual G-MAC/GLVC Crossover. It's also Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day for the Chargers, and another chance for Hillsdale to get revenge on a team that beat them not once but twice in 2021.

After two weeks on the road, Hillsdale then returns home for its annual Homecoming game against a big-time foe, taking on visiting Tiffin at 4 p.m. on October 8. The Chargers beat the Dragons on the road, 24-21, to help ruin Tiffin's quest for a third-straight G-MAC title. With both teams expected to be in the hunt in 2022, this early-season contest could loom large in the title race once again.

Following the game against Tiffin, Hillsdale hits the road for a road contest with former GLIAC foe and new G-MAC member Northwood on Oct. 15, before a stretch of three straight home contests that could prove critical to the Chargers' season.

Hillsdale hosts two key rivals in back-to-back weeks, starting with defending G-MAC champion Findlay on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. The Chargers were the only G-MAC team to defeat Findlay in 2021, a 34-29 road victory, and will be looking to repeat the feat and get a leg up in what is sure to be a hotly-contested G-MAC title race.

Next up for Hillsdale after the battle with the Oilers is another critical rivalry game with league title implications against Ashland on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. Hillsdale is looking to regain control of the Traveling Trophy between the two programs that it last possessed in 2011, and avenge a 28-17 loss to the Eagles in 2021 that dropped it out of G-MAC title contention.

The Chargers wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, November 5 with a non-conference game against long-time rival Michigan Tech, to be played at 1 p.m. The game also will serve as Senior Day for Hillsdale, as the Chargers honor their graduating players in the class of 2023.

Hillsdale is hoping to build on an impressive response to a season full of adversity in 2021, as the Chargers overcame an 0-3 start to finish 6-6 overall, 5-2 in conference play, and reach a bowl game for the first time since 1960. The Chargers are aiming to get back to the top of the G-MAC for the first time since 2018, but Team 130 knows it has its work cut out for it in an ever-improving conference with several strong teams eyeing the crown in 2022.
