Chargers can't keep up with Trevecca offense in doubleheader sweep to open series

The Hillsdale College baseball team couldn't contain a potent Trevecca Nazarene offense in a doubleheader sweep by the Trojans on Friday afternoon to kick off a four-game series.

The Chargers fell 18-1 to the Trojans in Game 1, hanging close to Trevecca for three innings before a seven-run fourth allowed the Trojans to pull away. Jaekob Sallee drove in Hillsdale's lone run in the top of the fifth, scoring Danny Passinault on a sacrifice fly.

Rocco Tenuta and Will Shannon each finished with two hits to lead Hillsdale at the plate, and Tyler Turner chipped in a double as well for the Chargers, who had six hits in the contest. Tommy MacLean took the loss for the Chargers, striking out three and walking six in three and a third innings of work, while Daly Skees, Drew Erdei, Patrick MacLean and Brendan Pochmara all pitched as well for the Chargers.

In the nightcap, Hillsdale couldn't overcome an early eight run deficit and an 11-run sixth inning by the Trojans as Trevecca took a 20-7 victory.

Tyler Turner was 2 for 3 with a triple, a RBI single and a RBI groundout to lead the Chargers in the nightcap, while Zak Kent added two hits, including a RBI single, and Aaron Jasiakwas 2 for 3 with a triple as well. Augie Hutchison hit a solo home run for the Chargers as part of a three-run seventh inning, Will Shannon added a double and Rocco Tenuta and Evan Fauquher each added a RBI hit as well.

Daniel Higdon took the loss for Hillsdale, striking out two and walking six in two and a third innings of work, and Devin Murray and Winston Delp each pitched in relief as well for Hillsdale.

The Chargers fall to 9-15 overall, 4-6 in the G-MAC and will look to rally to force a split with the Trojans in a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET and get back to even in G-MAC play.
