Oilers Stay Hot | Dominate Hillsdale in Croy

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team stayed hot as they took down the Hillsdale College Chargers by a score of 81-67 on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers never trailed en route to the 14-point victory and improve to 8-11 overall with a 6-7 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. With the loss, the Chargers fall to 11-9 overall and fall to 8-6 in conference action.

Findlay opened the game in the best possible way, a 12-0 run over the first six-and-a-half minutes of action. By the end of the quarter, the Oilers had opened up a 21-6 advantage and were in total control of the contest.

Four minutes into the second, Findlay was clicking on all cylinders and ballooned the lead to 20 as a triple by junior Lauren Hapgood put the home team ahead 31-11.

Hillsdale did not go quietly. Over the next ten minutes of action, the visiting Chargers outscored the Oilers 33-16 and pulled within three points with the score at 47-44. That was as close as the game would become as Findlay kept Hillsdale at arm's length, fighting off a scrappy opponent to seal the victory, the third in the previous four games for Findlay.

The Oilers hit 26-of-60 (43.3%) from the floor while holding the Chargers to just 23-of-68 (33.8%) in the game. Hillsdale actually held an advantage on the glass at 44-to-39, but Findlay controlled the ball, turning the ball over a season-low ten times while forcing Hillsdale into 15 turnovers.

Hapgood finished with a team-high 15 points on the strength of a 3-of-6 performance from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Seniors Bridget Landin and Sydney Kin each chipped in 14 points, both making five attempts from the floor. Kin collected a team-high 12 rebounds while Landin had seven rebounds and three assists.

Senior Paige Bellman scored eight points and added eight rebounds and three assists while senior Amber Schweiger, freshman Janae Hoying, and freshman Chloe Callahan each scored seven points for Findlay. Schweiger stuff the stat sheet as she had five rebounds, four assists, and a steal while Hoying had three assists and two steals.

For Hillsdale, Lauren Daffenberg was the hot hand as she dropped in a season-high 20 points, wowing those in attendance with a 6-of-10 performance from behind the arc. Sydney Mills and Grace Touchette each scored 15 in a losing effort.

These two teams are on short rest as they will face each other again on Monday, Feb. 7 in Hillsdale, Michigan. That game will begin at 5:00 pm.
