Baseball Extends Win Streak To Five With Doubleheader Sweep Over Hillsdale

SCORES: Northwood Timberwolves 6, Hillsdale Chargers 3/Northwood 7, Hillsdale 3

RECAP: Baseball extends winning streak to five with a pair of wins over Hillsdale Saturday (April 20), winning game one 6-3 and game two 7-3.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • A solo homerun in the top of the first inning gave Hillsdale an early 1-0 advantage.
  • Alex Cole's single to left field drove in Myles Beale in the bottom of the second to tie up the contest.
  • The Timberwolves took the lead in the bottom of the third. Ben Narr started the inning with a triple to right center and was brought home with an RBI groundout from Logan Voth.
  • Hillsdale tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth.
  • The Chargers added another solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning to go up 3-2.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Timberwolves responded with three runs to jump on top. Narr plated Joey Johnston with a groundout for the first run. Ben Clark's two-run single then scored Voth and Caden Duryea.
  • Evan Wiegand reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth to extend the Northwood lead to 6-3.
  • The Timberwolves' duo of Tyler Sager and Jake Jekielek pitched well to lead the way for NU.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • A Myles Beale RBI single plated Logan Voth to get the scoring started for the Timberwolves in the bottom of the first.
  • Later in the first, Alex Cole drew a walk with bases loaded to score Matt Magno, giving NU the 2-0 lead.
  • Hillsdale responded with three runs on four hits in the top of the third for the 3-2 lead.
  • NU added four runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the second. A single to left center by Matt Magno scored Voth, followed by a Myles Beale bunt single to plate Drew Charters.
  • A bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly rounded out the scoring in the inning as Northwood took the 6-3 advantage.
  • The Timberwolves extended their lead to 7-3 in the fourth inning with a Blake Salamon home run to center field.
  • After allowing three runs in the third, Kendall Anthes held the Chargers scoreless over his final three innings of work. Jake Carroll then tossed a scoreless seventh to close out the victory.
