Huskies split Friday at Crossover

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team split its day at the 15th annual Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament. The Huskies fell 3-0 to Hillsdale in the afternoon and bounced back with a sweep of Maryville in the evening.

"I'm very happy with the way we bounced back in the second match," Tech coach Matt Jennings said. "Our serve and pass game was on point and made a huge difference in this one. Brooke and Jackie were serving lasers back there. Lindy had a monster of a match and played a huge role in the outcome. We needed to come out and play with more urgency and assertiveness, and I'm proud of the way we did just that. We fought off a good Maryville team tonight. It was a big win for the Huskies.

"Hillsdale is a very good team and they did a great job taking us out of our game. They're really good on the defensive side of the ball and their pins went off. Hats off to coach Chris and his team."

Michigan Tech 3, Maryville 0

The Huskies won 25-23, 26-24, and 25-19. Tech overcame 17 ties and seven lead changes in the first. Lindy Oujiri pounded down seven kills in the second and eight in the third. The Black and Gold closed out the match hitting .407 in the third, scoring four of the final five points with kills by Kaycee Meiners and Oujiri.

Lindy Oujiri—the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week—had a match-high 20 kills while hitting .457. Meg Raabe (8) and Rachel Zurek (7) also had over six kills. Tess Hayes collected 38 assists while Amelia Albers (18) and Brook Dzwik (11) led the team in digs. Kaycee Meiners and Rachel Zurek each added four blocks.

Hillsdale 3, Michigan Tech 0

The Chargers defeated the Huskies for the second time this season 25-19, 25-22, and 25-17. Hillsdale hit .259 and put down 20 more kills than the Huskies.

Meg Raabe led Tech with 10 kills. Rachel Zurek (6 kills), Kaycee Meiners (5 kills), Tricia Kennedy (4 kills), and Lindy Oujiri (3 kills) also contributed to the offense. Tess Hayes set the attack with 22 assists. Amelia Albers led the defense with 10 digs, and Alayna Corwin added eight digs.

Tech is 8-11 overall and wraps up its non-conference schedule on Saturday. The opponent and time will be added to the schedule once it's finalized.
