Arena Lewis Named G-MAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

As a senior and team captain, Arena Lewis has been a part of an awful lot of team success throughout her career with the Charger women's cross country and track teams. Tuesday morning, she picked up another individual honor.

After a terrific performance at the University of Notre Dame over the weekend, Lewis was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office. Lewis' honor represents the 12th time this fall a Charger athlete has won a G-MAC weekly honor, and she's the ninth different athlete to win an award.

She finished 42nd overall in the Gold Division race at the Joe Piane Invitational with a time of 17:58.65. Don't let the place of her finish fool you - she ran a great race in an event filled with Division I runners. She beat out 131 Division I runners at the race to attain her time for the No. 9-ranked Chargers.

Lewis and her teammates are now training for the G-MAC Championships, set for Saturday, Oct. 19 and hosted by Ursuline College.
