Chargers announce 2023 schedule; set to begin defense of 2022 G-MAC Tourney crown

2023 Hillsdale College Volleyball Schedule

The Hillsdale College volleyball team is deep into spring preparations for its upcoming campaign in the Fall of 2023, as the Chargers aim for a seventh consecutive season of 20 or more wins, its sixth-straight NCAA DII Tournament berth, and its seventh-straight G-MAC Tournament crown.

Today, Wednesday, the Chargers are excited to announce their schedule for the upcoming 2023 campaign, with 30 matches on tap, including 10 home events in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

Hillsdale opens the 2023 campaign on the road at two invitationals, traveling north to Marquette, Michigan on Labor Day weekend to kick off the season at the Northern Michigan Classic against what is likely to be a strong set of opponents from the NCAA's powerhouse Central Region. The following weekend, Hillsdale will travel to Findlay for four matches at the Findlay Classic, including regional showdowns with Wayne St. (MI) and Saginaw Valley St.

After those two opening tests, Hillsdale will embark on its 19-match G-MAC schedule. The Chargers open with five straight home conference matches, including a midweek showdown against in-state rival Northwood at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The Chargers also have two matches on homecoming weekend, hosting Cedarville, one of only two G-MAC schools to hand Hillsdale a conference loss in 2022, in a 4:30 p.m. Friday matinee on the day befofe homecoming, Sept. 22, before taking on G-MAC newcomer Thomas More at noon on Saturday, Sept. 23 before the Hillsdale College football team's homecoming contest against Findlay at 4 p.m.

Other highlights on the home calendar include a weekend tripleheader with home matches against 2022 G-MAC regular season champion Ashland at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, Ohio Dominican at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, and against North Division arch-rival Findlay on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Hillsdale's match against ODU also will be the team's annual Alumni Day, with an Alumni match to take place following the conclusion of the afternoon's contest against the Panthers.

Hillsdale closes out the home calendar with matches against Malone at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, which will be the Chargers' annual Toys For Tots Drive, and its annual senior day match against Walsh on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.

The Chargers lose one All-American, graduated senior outside hitter Karoline Shelton, from last year's 28-7 team that upset Lewis to reach the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Semifinal round, but return another in rising junior libero Alli Wiese, as well as several other key contributors from last year's squad, including All-G-MAC honorees Marilyn Popplewell, Maizie Brown, Megan Kolp and Lauren Passaglia. That strong returning core, on top of an impressive freshman class, has Hillsdale thinking another G-MAC title and NCAA Tourney run could be in reach if they can play to their potential consistently in 2023.
