2022 Hillsdale College Volleyball Schedule
Fresh off of the program's second-ever Midwest Regional title and Elite Eight appearance, the Hillsdale College volleyball team is looking to carry the momentum from that run forward into the 2022 season.
The Chargers posted a 30-5 record in 2021, winning their fifth straight G-MAC regular season and tournament titles and emerging victorious in three straight matches in the NCAA Tournament, including an upset of top-seeded Ferris State on the Bulldogs' home floor in the final, to capture their first regional crown since 2011.
Hillsdale has big holes to fill with the graduation of a decorated five-player senior class, including consensus All-Americans Allyssa Van Wienen and Lindsey Mertz, but return plenty of talent as well, including senior outside hitter Karoline Shelton, the Spring 2021 G-MAC Player of the Year and an AVCA All-American in the fall, sophomore and second-team All-G-MAC libero Alli Wiese, and sophomore and third-team All-G-MAC middle hitter Maizie Brown.
The Chargers will put a new lineup to the test early with a challenging schedule in 2022. Hillsdale opens the slate on August 26 with a trip to Kansas City, Missouri to play four matches against the top teams in the country at the Rockhurst Invite.
Following that test, Hillsdale hosts four teams for its first home invitational since 2019 on Sept. 1-3, with 10 matches. In attendance will be Ferris State, the Midwest Regional runner-up who lost to the Chargers in 2021, as well as Gannon, the 2021 Atlantic Region Champion who knocked off Hillsdale in the Elite Eight the following weekend, as well as Midwest Regional contender Missouri S&T and NCAA South Central Regional qualifier Colorado Mines for a field full of Top 25-caliber opponents.
The Chargers also host Davenport on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. and play in the annual Midwest Regional Crossover between the G-MAC, GLVC and GLIAC on Oct. 14-15 in Hammond, Indiana, for non-conference action.
Hillsdale kicks off G-MAC play on the road on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Lake Erie, and plays an 18-match conference schedule, with eight home dates. Highlighting the home conference schedule is a Tuesday, Sept. 27 match against new G-MAC opponent Northwood, at 7 p.m., as well as a home contest against arch-rival Findlay on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
The Chargers also will host their annual Alumni Day on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. against Ursuline, and will honor their senior class on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. against Malone.
