Allyssa Van Wienen Secures 7th G-MAC Player of the Week Honor of 2019 Season

A championship player performed at a championship level over the weekend for the Hillsdale College volleyball team.

Junior middle hitter Allyssa Van Wienen put a ribbon on a 2019 season of sheer dominance by leading the Chargers to the 2019 Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament title. She was named the final G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week award recipient for this season on Monday afternoon. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

In three matches during last week's tournament, Van Wienen piled up 43 kills and 9 total blocks with an overall hitting percentage of .459.

In Tuesday's quarterfinal win over Malone, she had 16 kills with 0 errors, hitting .457. After an 8-kill performance versus Kentucky Wesleyan in the semifinal, Van Wienen loomed large in the championship match against Tiffin Saturday. She led Hillsdale with 19 kills, hitting .471 for the match with a solo block and three block assists.

She enters NCAA tournament play this weekend leading the G-MAC with a .443 hitting percentage and ranks second to her teammate Hannah Gates by averaging 1.02 blocks per set.

No player in Charger volleyball history has won seven conference player of the week awards in one season. Until now.
