Mambo Number 5

Mambo Number 5

Thirteen days away from game competition did nothing to dull the sharp edge Charger junior Allyssa Van Wienen has been playing with all season.

Monday afternoon, she was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

In a pair of 3-0 road wins over Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan over the weekend, Van Wienen was her usual unstoppable self, totaling 24 kills with just one hitting error across the two matches. She had a .523 hitting percentage for the weekend, adding to her already league-leading hitting percentage mark of .436 for the season.

She led all players with 13 kills in Friday's win over the Trojans, and followed that up with an 11-kill, 0-error performance in Saturday's win over the Pathers. She needs just 16 kills to crak the 300-kill mark for the first time in her career, and has established herself as one of Division II's elite middle hitters during a truly special season.
