Third Time's the Charm

Third Time's the Charm

There hasn't been a weekend where Charger volleyball junior Allyssa Van Wienen hasn't dominated the competition.

Her third conference weekly award in three weeks reflects that.

Van Wienen, a middle hitter for Hillsdale, was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in three weeks. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office Monday afternoon.

In three matches over the weekend, Van Wienen had 56 kills with an unbelievably high .535 hitting percentage. She also averaged more than one block per set and nearly one dig per set. Her .731 hitting percentage Sunday vs. Indianapolis (19 kills, 0 errors, 26 attempts) was the 10th-best single-match hitting percentage mark in conference history. In Sunday morning's win over Seton Hill, she finished with a career-high 24 kills against just one error, putting down 13 kills in the fourth set alone.

She has now moved into first place in the G-MAC in hitting percentage (.438) and ranks third in kills per set (4.05). Van Wienen has helped lead Hillsdale to a 9-2 start to the season.
