Taylor Wiese Captures First G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week Award

This year, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference is recognizing the defensive aspect to the sport of volleyball with awarding a defensive player of the week award each week.

In the second weekend of the season, it was Taylor Wiese's turn to be recognized.

The senior libero from the 14th-ranked Charger volleyball team earned the Defensive Player of the Week award Monday afternoon. The award was chosen and announced by the conference office.

A two-time First-Team All-Conference selection, Wiese has excelled in the back row for Hillsdale ever since she joined the program in 2016. After missing the first weekend of competition, Wiese returned to the court and was a spark for Hillsdale's 4-0 record at its own tournament, which helped account for it leaping five spots in the national poll from last week.

Wiese averaged 5.4 digs per set across those four matches, which featured wins over #16 Palm Beach Atlantic, regional rivals Ashland and Northwood, and a hard-earned win over one of the Atlantic Region's most powerful teams, Clarion.

She compiled 30 digs in the 3-2 win over the Sailfish Saturday evening, one off her career-high. That effort marked the third time in her career she's joined the AVCA's 30-dig club. All of those matches have come in the last two seasons.

Wiese played high school volleyball at Mattawan High School.
