OVERVIEW
- A battered, but determined Charger volleyball team hits the road this weekend for three matches against schools from Ohio, startikng with a big match Friday night at second-place Tiffin
- A win over the Dragons would reap huge benefits for the Chargers...It would give them a season sweep of Tiffin - helpful in potential tiebreaking scenarios - and give them a three-game lead over the Dragons in the conference standings...Tiffin and Findlay are currently tied for second place in the G-MAC West
- Although Hillsdale went 0-3 at last weekend's Midwest Region Crossover, there were some bright spots...Senior Paige VanderWall had a school-record 27 kills in Saturday's match against Ashland...She also had 21 digs, recording Hillsdale's first 20-20 match since the 25-point rally score system was instituted in 2008
- Sophomore setter Lindsey Mertz averaged 13.5 assists per set in three matches last weekend, which was three more assists per set than the G-MAC East Division Player of the Week averaged...Mertz's 56 assists Saturday against Ashland were a season-high
- VanderWall and Mertz were each named to the Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament Team
- VanderWall leads the G-MAC, averaging 4.09 kills per set...She's also 7th in the league in hitting percentage and has the most attack attempts of any player in the top 7 in hitting percentage in the conference...She owns three of the top seven single-match kill totals in the league this year
- Junior Hannah Gates ranks third in the conference with a .331 hitting percentage
- This is the second consecutive three-match weekend for the Chargers on the road...Next weekend the team is on the road again before playing the final three matches of the regular season at home Oct. 30-Nov. 3
