OVERVIEW
- It's sure to be a busy and emotional week inside the Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena as the Charger volleyball team faces its longtime rival Findlay Tuesday, then celebrates Senior Weekend with matches at home Friday vs. Ohio Dominican and Saturday vs. Walsh
- A win over the Oilers Tuesday night would clinch the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season championship for Hillsdale and assure it of the #1 overall seed in next week's conference tournament...The Chargers currently sit two games ahead of Findlay in the standings with three matches to play, meaning a win would increase that lead to three with two to play
- Hillsdale beat Findlay 3-1 in the first matchup between the teams back on Sept. 14 in Ohio...In that match the Oilers won the opening set 34-32 - the longest set played by Hillsdale since the current scoring system was implemented in 2008 - but the Chargers stormed back to win the final three sets by an average of 8 points each
- The Chargers have lost just one set in conference play since that initial meeting with Findlay...Hillsdale's set record in G-MAC matches this year is 48-2
- The Chargers are finally back home after playing eight straight matches on the road over the past three weeks...The team was 5-3 in those matches, defeating all five of its conference opponents
- Tuesday's match brings together the two most dominant statistical teams in the G-MAC...Hillsdale and Findlay rank 1-2 in average kills per set, assists per set and team hitting percentage...The Oilers lead the conference with 2.54 serving aces per set while the Chargers yield the fewest service aces to their opponents, 0.88 per set
- Senior Night will be celebrated prior to Saturday's match against Walsh...Paige VanderWall, Kara Vyletel and Taylor Bennett will be recognized for their outstanding careers along with family and friends in a ceremony that will take place immediately after the conclusion of warm-ups, and before the national anthem
- Hillsdale and Findlay were ranked 9th and 10th in the first set of NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings, which were unveiled last Wednesday...The top 8 teams in each region qualify for the postseason tournament, but keep in mind the G-MAC Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to regionals
