Lindsey Mertz Named G-MAC West Player of the Week

For the second time in her career, Hillsdale College sophomore Lindsey Mertz has been named the G-MAC West Division Player of the Week. The award was announced Monday afternoon and chosen by the conference office.

The Chargers had a big week last week, going 3-0, a week that was highlighted by a 3-1 win over 24th-ranked FIndlay on the road Friday night. That win was sandwiched inbetween wins of 3-1 over Cedarville and 3-0 over Ohio Dominican. Mertz, the team's quarterback on offense as the setter, was a big reason why the team played so well through those three matches.

In Tuesday's home win over the Yellow Jackets, she handed out 53 assists, an average of more than 13 per set. She kept up that high level of play Friday with 43 assists in the win over the Oilers, Hillsdale's first road win against Findlay in five years. Saturday, she had 35 assists in a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers in Columbus, giving Hillsdale its conference-record 20th straight G-MAC victory.

Mertz was the G-MAC and Midwest Region Freshman of the Year last year and has kept on improving into her second year. She leads the G-MAC with 11.35 assists per set and has helped the Chargers into first place in the West Division. She is a native of Frankenmuth, Michigan.
