Lakers Ease Past Chargers

Box score

Very little went right for the Hillsdale College volleyball team Friday night in Allendale.

Hillsdale trailed the 24th-ranked Grand Valley State volleyball team for all but three points of the Lakers' 3-0 win over the Chargers at the Fieldhouse Arena. The loss drops Hillsdale to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in the GLIAC.

GVSU won the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-14.

The Chargers struggled offensively, generating just 27 kills as a team on 117 attempts, adding up to a .077 hitting percentage, by far their lowest of the season. On the other side, GVSU hit .317 and had at least 16 kills in each of the match's three sets. Hillsdale's hitting percentage dropped with each successive set, going from .152 to .051 to .000.

Junior Erin Holsinger led the offense with 7 kills, while Paige VanderWall, Jenalle Beaman and Emily Wolfert each had 4.

Sophomore libero Brittany Jandasek played in her first conference match of the season and recorded 20 digs. Senior setter Marissa Owen dished out 19 assists.

UP NEXT: The task gets no easier for Hillsdale Saturday as it faces third-ranked Ferris State at 5 p.m. in Big Rapids.
