Hillsdale Caps Perfect Weekend With Sweep of Oilers

The 2013 Hillsdale College volleyball season has unquestionably hit a new high point with its play this weekend.

Less than 24 hours after defeating Wayne State in a three-set sweep, the Chargers went to Findlay and did the same to the Oilers, winnign 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Croy Gymnasium in Findlay. With the win, Hillsdale is now over .500 for the first time this season at 9-8, and is now 6-3 in the GLIAC.

Hillsdale ran its offense to new levels of efficiency and effectiveness, as it hit .424 as a team, its highest number in more than two years. Three players - Marissa Owen, Lindsay Kostrzewa and Haylee Booms - hit .500 or better in attack percentage. The entire team generated 50 kills against just eight hitting errors in the match. 

The Chargers won the sets by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-22. 

Leading the offense for Hillsdale was sophomore Jenalle Beaman, who set a new career-high with 13 kills with just one errors. Her previous career-high in kills came early in her freshman season when she had 11.

Senior Caitlin Kopmeyer three down 12 kills and five block assists for the Chargers, and Kostrzewa added nine kills and four block assists. Booms had seven kills on no errors, and sophomore Emily Wolfert had eight kills.

Owen shattered her previous career-high for assists with 42 in the match, far exceeding her 27 in three sets the night before. Senior Sydney Lenhart led Hillsdale's defense with 11 digs.

Hillsdale has not lost to Findlay since October 2009.

The Chargers are back home in their newly renovated gym next weekend, hosting Lake Erie College Friday night and Ashland University Saturday afternoon.
