Lakers Pound Chargers in 3

Lakers Pound Chargers in 3

Box Score

It's tough to get beat more decisively than the Hillsdale College volleyball team did Friday night.

Playing their sixth nationally ranked team in nine matches, the Chargers lost a 3-0 decision to #21 Grand Valley State University in Allendale in the GLIAC opener for both teams. Hillsdale is now 3-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play, and will take on Ferris State University in Big Rapids at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Lakers won the sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-11. GVSU got the win thanks to shutting down the Hillsdale offense. The Chargers generated just 18 kills as a team in the match. The second-fewest kills in a match by Hillsdale this season is 33, which happened twice.

Hillsdale had a rare match where it had more attack errors (19) than kills (18), resulting in a -.010 team hitting percentage. The Lakers had 22 more kills in the match than the Chargers, and had 13 more digs (51-38). The Chargers' best hitting percentage in any single set was .022 in set two, and the Chargers committed five service errors and had nine serve reception errors, compared to just one ace.

Sophomore Emily Wolfert led Hillsdale's offense with four kills, while senior Bekah Draves had three. Junior Alexis Waugh had 12 assists and six digs, while Wolfert's 10 digs led the team.
