Ferris State Sweeps Hillsdale

Ferris State Sweeps Hillsdale

Box Score

November 9, 2012 - Another slow start cost the Hillsdale College volleyball team a shot at one of the top contenders in the GLIAC Friday night.

A rough night in serve receive cost Hillsdale dearly in a 3-0 loss to Ferris State University Friday night in Big Rapids. The Chargers are now 15-13 overall and 11-6 in the GLIAC, and wrap up the regular season Saturday afternoon at Grand Valley State.

Hillsdale committed 12 serve-receive errors in the match, which led to 12 easy points for the Bulldogs. Seven of Ferris State's aces came in the first set, won by FSU 25-13.

The Chargers were more competitive in sets two and three, and hit .289 as a team in the third set, but it wasn't enough to overcome a strong and athletic Ferris State team, one of the most difficult opponents in the conference to play on its home court.

Hillsdale hit .120 as a team, and five players had between four and seven kills for the match.

Freshman Emily Wolfert led the way with seven kills for the Chargers. Junior Caitlin Kopmeyer had six kills and seven digs, while senior Lauren Grover added five kills and four block assists. Sophomore Alexis Waugh led Hillsdale with 16 assists, while freshman Marissa Owen took a turn at setter in the match and had 10 assists along with seven digs.

Sophomore libero Bailey Lindner led the team with 11 digs in the match.
